... a little girl who was enrolled in Raleigh's "More at Four" Pre-K program came to school a few days ago without any milk, so someone — teacher's aide? cafeteria worker? who knows? — told her to go through the lunch line and get some. (It was free.) But she got confused and thought she had to get a whole new lunch.

A local TV station picked up on this, and before long the conservo-sphere was reporting that jack-booted thugs in North Carolina were forcing every child in their schools to eat only their Obama-approved chicken nuggets instead of nutritious family-packed meals.

The Republican policy, especially in the South, involves that Negro Family in the White House is that are taking away your freedoms.

Hi jade,

This story seems to be the latest mutation of this; http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/02/14/preschoolers-homemade-lunch-replaced-with-nuggets/?cmpid=cmty_other_Gigya_Preschooler's_homemade_lunch_replaced_with_nuggets

The girls mother packed her a lunch which contained a turkey sandwich, apple juice, a bag of chips and another item which I don't recall at the moment.

In any case, the lunch was missing a required item, a vegetable. A state employee was inspecting packed lunches.

Instead of simply replacing the missing item, which is the protocol that the policy requires, they apparently confiscated her packed lunch and made her buy a complete school lunch for $1.75 or some bargain basement price.

Out of that complete lunch, the young lady chose to eat 3 chicken nuggets.

End of story.

But hold on. Not so fast. You know that Fox gets ahold of this and the next thing you know, instead of a state employee failing to adhere to the policy, we get a full-blown rant about the "nanny-state gubmint" stomping all over the poor kids rights. And of course, what would a bunch of ignoramuses who didn't bother to read the story say but; "Yup, them Obama's are forcing kids to eat crap."

What a load of @!$%#.

Thnk you for the more complete story. It's amazing how brain dead rumor has overtaken rational discussion on some cable "news." They have painted Michelle Obama with a mean brush. Her attempts to make children healthier cannot be presented reasonable goal for the young. Indeed it's a load of @!$%#.

The missing item was a banana, and the nutrition guidelines said "fruits OR vegetables". The sandwich also had cheese on it, which happens to be a dairy product anyway. The only thing missing was milk, which the school could simply have given to the child without all the drama or they could have rightly counted the cheese as dairy. The other story also reported that the lunchroom person gave the whole other meal to the girl - nothing mentioned about the girl being confused in the earlier story. Sounds like they are trying to cover their tracks now, though.

I have to wonder why there are so many itterations of this story? It's not as if this was the only thing to report on in the world.

Beats me.

This was a single, isolated instance of a single state official in a tiny little pre-school who screwed up on a single solitary lunch, yet the Teahadists are Hell bent on turning this into an all-out assault on the rights of all schoolchildren all over America.

I guess when too many facts get in the way of the anti-Obama narrative, an urban legend needs to be crafted.

Funny how in the meantime, when an actual all-out assault on women's reproductive rights is being mounted by the GodsOfProcreation, they are strangely silent.
